Eligibility
First Year Students
If you will be a first year undergraduate student (not living locally) OR an International first year postgraduate student, you are guaranteed accommodation as a single student in University Residences, provided that you meet these requirements:
- You are starting a full-time course at UEA in the Autumn term
- You are New to UEA (i.e. this is the first time you have studied here).
- You are listed as a student by the 1st of September. To list you as a new student, the University must have received your formal acceptance of an unconditional offer of a place (for more information see “What happens next?”).
- You ensure that we have received your application for accommodation by the 1st of September
Other guarantee conditions:
If you are a Postgraduate, you must be paying Overseas fees.
Students coming to do postgraduate courses at UEA, who are not paying Overseas fees, should make their own arrangements for accommodation in the Private sector. We may be able to consider application for accommodation in residences during term time (if we have vacant rooms).
If you are an Undergraduate, you must not be living within a 12-mile radius of the University.
Students who live locally (within a 12 mile radius of the University) are not guaranteed accommodation, but we will consider applications once all guaranteed students have been allocated (usually after the start of term). Click here for a list of villages and towns excluded from the Accommodation Guarantee.
Part-time Students and Registration Only Postgraduate students are not normally eligible for University accommodation
The guarantee
Your guarantee is for a room in University Residence (or Accommodation otherwise managed by the University), not for a room of a particular type, or necessarily a single room. This means that we cannot guarantee that you will be allocated your preferred residence or type of room, but we promise to do our best. If we do not have enough single rooms to meet demand, you may be offered a twin room to share with another student of the same sex as a temporary measure. Usually, as the term progresses, we are able to offer all guaranteed students a single room of their own.
Second Year Students
International (Overseas) students from outside the EU are guaranteed accommodation beginning each Autumn semester for the duration of their course provided they apply each year when requested to do so.
Students who have restricted mobility, require personal support or who have other special requirements, may also be eligible for accommodation for the duration of their course provided their application is supported by the Dean of Students’ Office.
All other students arrange accommodation for their second year in the private sector.
